Is DCS World actually too hard, or does it simply take too long to reach the fun? In Episode 4, Plazma and Resin look at the famous DCS learning curve from a different angle. A new module doesn’t just cost money — it costs evenings of keybinds, tutorials, system learning and practice. When you have five hours available, learning an F-16 can feel like an adventure. When you have ninety minutes after work, the same experience can start feeling suspiciously like homework.
We compare DCS with War Thunder, talk about the huge amount of free time many players had during the COVID era, and ask whether DCS sometimes tries to turn players into hardcore simmers before giving them a reason to care. The answer isn’t to simplify DCS or lower its incredible simulation ceiling. It’s to make the first step easier: let a new pilot fly, shoot something, make mistakes and have fun — because that same player may eventually become the guy worrying about fuel, navigation, formation flying and getting his wingman safely home
